This book Commemorating the Centenary of Maree 1883 – 1983 by Lois Litchfield is the story of the hub of our inland development with its multi-culture, its teamsters, its camel-men and its stockmen.
Mrs Litchfield in this book tells the story of 100 years of progress in the outback of South Australia which must be amongst the most colourful and interesting in our history.
Marree was the starting point for the mail run to Birdsville in South West Queensland. Marree is also the closest town to the vast saltpan, Lake Eyre, which lies to the northwest of Marree.
This is an excellent book for the history Marree, the Birdsville track, the Oodnadatta Track, the railway, communications, transport, people and social activities.
