Description
JOHN FLYNN is one of Australia’s greatest folk heroes. His achievements are the stuff of legend: no other Australian has had more monuments dedicated to him than John Flynn.
Or Flynn possessed two qualities seldom found in one man. He had vision, and the executive ability to get things done. He was a modern Apostle Paul.- ROBERT MENZIES
Confronted by the isolation and dangers faced by those living in the vast Australian Inland, John Flynn dedicated his life to bringing communications, well-being and safety to the Inlanders. He inspired a talented team of collaborators that included doctors, nurses, pilots, ministers and inventors. Their efforts saw world-first innovations such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the School of the Air, Patrol Padres and the pedal wireless.
Flynn established a network of cottage hospitals, flying doctors, patrol padres, welfare centres and radio transmitters to create a “Mantle of Safety” that would allow the Outback to be habitable for men, women and children.
Painstakingly researched and drawing on previously unpublished material, John Flynn tells the story of this remarkable man in all its adventure.
Ivan Rudolph brings out Flynn the man who, like no other, revolutionised the lives of people in the “Never Never” country of Australia.-FRED McKAY
