There have been a number of tough characters in Australia’s short European history. One such character was Australia’s greatest inland explorer, John McDouall Stuart, who in 1861-62 crossed the continent from south to north and back, through the centre and without loss of life. Rex Ellis is another. But Rex is more than tough. He’s a mixture of expeditioner, adventurer, pioneer, conservationist, ornithologist, and safari operator. He’s been in the bush for more years than three score and ten.

Description

Another  interesting book by Rex Ellis, that I am sure you will enjoy.

He knows the ‘other’ Australia; the one where you must be responsible for your own actions, where bureaucracy and rules are irrelevant; the one where an outcome is dependent on your knowledge, your decision making and your experience.
Rex has cut the tracks of most of Australia’s inland explorers. The verbose explorer, Ernest Giles said “the wild charm and exciting desire that induce an individual to undertake arduous tasks that lie before an explorer, and the pleasure and delight of visiting new and totally unknown places, are only whetted by his first attempt”. Our man Ellis may not know the quote, but he lives it out. He takes risks and creates adventures. It’s a hell of a stimulating experience to be with him when these occur. But Rex is backed up by a team of blokes who have unique skills he will call on should the need arise. Relying on experience, reading the country, navigating in an area where few or no other white fellas have been: that’s just what the explorers of Australia’s vast interior did. And Rex does it also.
This is just some of what Rick Moore President of John McDouall Stuart Society says of Rex in the foreword of the book.

Enjoy the read!
