Rex Ellis grew up on the edge of McLaren Vale. His father and uncle had a dairy farm and operated the town milk run. The surrounding countryside was rich and varied. Areas of bush, vineyards, orchards, and farmland provided the habitat for the local kids. Trapping rabbits, watching birds, fishing, and ‘gang wars’ were everyday occupations.
